Departmental Notice
About the Department:
The Department of Arabic was established in 1981. The Department has been a great seat of Arabic learning and innovative research work for Arabic language and literature since its inception. The Department offers Honours & Regular, Major & Minor (under NEP 2020) courses in undergraduate level. It aims to foster value education along with thorough grounding in the written and spoken language, and to inculcate a broad spectrum of knowledge in the history and culture of Middle East through exposure to selected Arabic original writings like prose, poetry, novel, drama ranging from the pre-Islamic period to contemporary period. Besides, the department successfully managed to give coverage to all the literary periods, areas, fields, genres and issues as well as literary endeavours of orientalists.
Students are given intensive mentoring both in and beyond the classroom in a wide variety of forms with a special focus on imbibing skills in spoken and standard written Arabic. To nourish the excellence in spoken and written Arabic, new curricula of listening and reading modern Arabic as a focal point are introduced. To fulfill and satisfy the academic thirst of the students, the Department provides all avenues possible.
A lot of students from the Department were placed in different academic and non-academic institutions of repute in the country, especially in North-East India like schools, colleges and universities and other excellent jobs especially in the Middle East.
All the teaching staff of the Department have been playing active role in promoting Arabic language and its literature by participating in national and international seminars held in different parts of the country, and by producing and publishing books, articles, research papers, proceedings etc. related to Arabic language and literature.

The department aims to achieve the highest standards of academic excellence and to impart quality education in Arabic Language and Literature.
Mission:
Training that is efficient and goal-oriented, allowing students to excel in both academic and professional domains.
To unveil the scientific and literary heritage of the Indo-Arab Literature through standard research. This will further boost the cultural and economic relations with the Arab World, Additionally it will increase the job prospects of the learners.
Teaching Arabic as a language of ancient literature and as a viable contemporary language with enormous research and employment potential.
