Electoral Literacy Club

1.Whether Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) has been set up in the college?

Yes. It was set up in 2022. This club is functional along with the NSS Cell of the Institution. An electoral literacy club provides a means of involving students in engaging activities and practical experiences that raise awareness of their rights as voters and familiarize them with the registration and voting processes.

  • To raise interest and awareness among teachers and students by holding camps and awareness-raising events.
  • To impart knowledge about voter registration, the election process, and other topics to the targeted demographics.
  • The purpose of this is to educate the targeted audiences with electronic voting machines (EVMs) and educate them on the reliability and integrity of the voting process.
  • To guarantee that those who are uninformed of the importance of voting use their right to vote in a self-assured, comfortable, and morally upright manner.
  • To assist eligible members who haven’t registered to vote in the process of registering to vote.
  • The aim is to foster a voting culture that prioritizes educated and ethical voting, adhering to the principles of “Every Vote Counts” and “No Voter to be Left Behind.”

2. What innovative programs and initiatives undertaken by the ELCs? These may include voluntary contribution by the students in electoral processes-participation in voter registration of students and communities where they come from, assisting district election administration in conduct of poll, voter awareness campaigns, promotion of ethical voting, enhancing participation of the under privileged sections of society especially transgender, commercial sex workers, disabled persons, senior citizens, etc.

The ELC organizes constitutional events such as constitutional day, youth day, voter awareness programs, legal awareness programs, and voter registration drives to promote the values, rights, obligations, and responsibilities of citizens in order to sensitize students and staff. Every year on November 26, the Constitution Day is celebrated, during which all students and staff members accept a commitment. 25th January is also celebrated as National Voter’s Day. The college’s institute runs voter awareness campaigns through the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC). The Institute gives a special address about the significance of voting and how it supports the constitutional rights guaranteed by the ELC. Strong legislation, which is achieved by choosing the right person in the right place, is essential for democracy to succeed.

3. Any socially relevant projects/initiatives taken by College in electoral related issues especially research projects, surveys, awareness drives, creating content, publications highlighting their contribution to advancing democratic values and participation in electoral processes, etc.

To raise awareness among students and staff about the rights, obligations, and responsibilities of citizens, the ELC hosts constitutional activities such constitutional day, youth day, voter awareness programs, and voter registration campaigns.

4. Extent of students above 18 years who are yet to be enrolled as voters in the electoral roll and efforts by ELCs as well as efforts by the College to institutionalize mechanisms to register eligible students as voters.

Through awareness campaigns, students who are older than 18 are encouraged to register to vote.

5. Whether students’ coordinator and coordinating faculty members are appointed by the College and whether the ELCs are functional? Whether the ELCs are representative in character?
