DEPARTMENTAL PROFILE 

 

BACKGROUND:  The department of Assamese started in July, 1993. The department started with Four teachers Dr. Meera Devi, Late. Trilachan Barman, Mrs Sabitri Kalita Choudhury and Mr. Nurul Islam Mandal. From 1996 onwards, the commencement of honours course being regulated. At present, the following teachers are working as assistant professor in the department – 

 

  1. Dr. Anupama Rabha, Assistant Professor [ Head of Department (i/c)] 
  2. Dr. Asma Easmin, Assistant Professor
  3. Dr. Shilpa Hazarika, Assistant Professor

 

Aim and Objective:  

  1. To provide knowledge of Assamese language and Literature among the students of higher secondary to degree level. 
  2. To introduce the basic concepts about the Indian and world literature among the students.

 

VISION

To Prepare the students to understands, realized and to soul the social vice and obstacles and to make them feet for contributing to the socio-economic development of the surrounding areas.

  • To Provide opportunities for quality higher education.
  • To facilitate the inculcation of moral, cultural, spiritual values among the youths.
  • To encourage the youth to fight against all forms of social evils and superstitions.
  • To instil leadership role among the young in order to develop environmental awareness.
  • To promote and extend helping hands to the nearby community and educational institutions in order to create a responsible attitude for the upcoming generation.
  • To maintain and create a healthy atmosphere of gender equity.

 

 

SWOS Analysis

 

Strength:

  • Competent faculty members with research degrees and research publications.
  • All the teachers maintain a friendly relation with the students and ready to help them in need.
  • The teachers are involved various co-curricular activities of the college and also different workshop, training, refreshers course, FDP etc.
  • Students are engaged in departmental activities like publication of departmental magazine and wall magazine etc.

 

Weakness:

  • Insufficient infrastructure facilities.
  • Insufficient reading room.
  • Insufficient reference books.
  • Less student pursuing higher education.
  • Moderate placement ratio.

 

Opportunity:

  • Scope for language and cultural studies of different tribes of Assam.
  • Scope for introducing new course.
  • Scope for strengthening outreach programme.

 

Challenges:

  • Encouraging students for competitive examination and higher studies.
  • It is a challenge to generated interest of students who come from diverse socio-economic background.
  • More placements for student after completing their studies.

The Assamese department signed a Memorandum of understanding of teachers and students exchange between Ambari college and Baida College.

 

Creative work:

The department of Assamese has been publishing a handwritten short story book where the students are given chance to blossom their hidden creative talent.

A wall magazine named “BORNOXIKHA” has also been published every special programme at college.

A department library named “ROKHRAJ” is also availed with a number of quality reference as well as text books.

Structure of Syllabus: CBCS course was introduced in 2018 under Gauhati University. The department has no own syllabus. Syllabus has been operated according to the syllabus prepared by AHSEC and Gauhati University.   

  1. Sessional exam is being conducted by the department precisely in duration of two/three months.

 

LEARNING RESOURCES OF THE DEPAERTMENT    

Classroom Facilities. The classrooms are equipped with black board. Library:  There is a library in the department. There are about 250 numbers of books in the departmental library which includes both text books and references. UGC CARE listed journal DOGO RANGSANG has subscribed by the department.

 

Computer: A desktop is available in the department.

Associate Professor & Vice-Principal Dr. Bijaya Devi, M.A in Education (1989), M.A in Assamese (1993), B.Ed (1995), M.Phil (2001), & Ph.D (2015) is an educationist with nearly three decades of experience. She has written more than 15 text books for Degree and higher Secondary Courses which has helped the students’ lot. More than she has contributed many articles for the society.

Dr. Barnali Rabha is a young teacher. In her short career span she has already gathered an immense experience of teaching at varied colleges and even at postgraduate level. She has written 4 text books. Moreover, she has also a number of publications to her credit including an international publication of above 3 impact factor. She has edited three books with ISBN Number as “JNANAM”.

  1. Special talk on Human Trafficking on 18/01/2022

Special Talk on Human Trafficking program was organized by the WOMEN CELL in collaboration with the department of Assamese and department of History, Lakhipur College on 18th Jan, 2022 in Library building. The Resource person was Dr. Rupali Rongpipi, Assistant Professor, Dept of History, Lakhipur College. The teacher’s staff and students have actively participated.

 

  1. Special talk on BISYAYANR PROBHABOT BIHU on 11/04/2022.

Special talk on “Bisyayanr probhabot Bihu” on 11/04/2022. The Resource person was Abdul Zabbar, Associate Professor, Dept of English, B.P.C College, Nagarbera. The Program was organized by the Women Cell, in Collaboration with the Department of Assamese, Lakhipur College.

 

  1. Wokshop on Hajong Folk Dance

The Assamese department of Lakhipuur College has organized 10 days workshop on Hajong Folk Dance in 23/05/2022.

 

  1. Madhavdeva Tithi was celebrated on 18/09/2022.

Shri Shri Madhavdeva Tithi was celebrated on 18/09/2022 by the Department of Assamese Lakhipur College. A Quiz competition was organized among the students on his Death Anniversary.

 

  1. Bhupen Hazarika Tithi was celebrated on 05/11/2022.

Assamese department was celebrated Bhupen Hazarika Tithi on his death anniversary on 05/11/2023.  On the tithi of Bhupen Hazarika all faculties and the students remembered him by singing BHUPENDRA SANGEET.

 

  1. Bhupen Hazarika Tithi was celebrated on 05/11/2022.

Assamese department was celebrated Bhupen Hazarika Tithi on his death anniversary on 05/11/2023.  On the tithi of Bhupen Hazarika all faculties and the students remembered him by singing BHUPENDRA SANGEET.

 

  1. Field trip to Under the Saal Tree, Badungduppa on 16/12/2022.
  2. The Assamese department of Lakhipur College celebrates Silpi Divas to mark the death anniversary of the cultural icon and freedom fighter Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala on 17/01/2023.

 

  1. Mehendi Art Competition on 16/03/2023.

Mehendi Competition was organized by the Women Cell in Collaboration with the department of  Assamese and IQAC Lakhipur College.

 

  1. International Mother language Day was celebrated on 21/02/2023.

Awareness program was organized by the department of Assamese in-collaboration with IQAC Lakhipur College on 21/02/2023 on the occasion of International Mother language day in Sotosigri, adopted village of Lakhipur college. Dr. Anupama Rabha delivered a very influential lecture about the importance of preserving one’s Mother Tongue.

 

  1. There is a wall magazine named “Bornoxikha”, in Lakhipur College. The wall magazine is made by the students of the department. The wall magazine is inaugurated on certain special occasions of the college like college week, freshers, farewell, etc. The Assamese department secured 2nd position in wall magazine competition conducted by IQAC, Lakhipur college in 2023.

 

  1. A hand-written SHORT STORY BOOK was published on 18/03/2023 prepared by the students of Assamese department by the editor Benzire Begum (5th Sem) and Sultana Parvin (5th Sem).

 

  1. Best Out of Waste Competition on 23/03/2023.

Women Cell of Lakhipur College in collaboration with department of Assamese and Eco club organized “Best Out of Waste” competition in Lakhipur College on 23/03/2023.

 

  1. Workshop on Diha Naam

The Women Cell of Lakhipur College in collaboration with the department of Assamese and IQAC Lakhipur College has organized 10 day’s workshop on DIHA NAAM from 6th June to 16th June 2023. This program was successfully conducted by the organizers. Total 36 students have participated on this workshop. Certificate given to all participants.

 

  1. Rabha Divas is observed every year by the department of Assamese Lakhipur College on 20th June, 2023.

 

  1. Outreach Program on Paddy Cultivation

Women Cell and Assamese Department of Lakhipr College has organized an Outreach Program on Paddy Cultivation at Soto Sigri, adopted village of Lakhipur College on 12th August 2023.

 

  1. Bihu Workshop

The Women Cell of Lakhipur College in collaboration with the department of Assamese and IQAC Lakhipur College has organized 10 day’s workshop on Bihu Dance from 23rd December to 2nd January . This program was successfully conducted by the organizers. Total 23 students have participated on this workshop. Certificate given to all participants.

 

  1. Farewell program is conducted by the department in every academic session for college students and retired professors. It is a poignant occasion filled with a mix of emotions. It serves as a platform to express gratitude, share memories, and bid a heartfelt goodbye.

 

  1. The Assamese department conducts Certificate courses in every session on various topic namely:
  2. Certificate Course on Assamese DTP from 21/05/2023 to 21/06/2023.

Certificate course on PPT from 22/03/2023 to 29/03/2023.

  1. The faculty of Assamese department also provide students with PPT classes.
  2. The faculty of Assamese department also conduct orientation, open discussion with the students for a better understanding about their needs and difficulties.

 

  1. The faculty of Assamese department has conducted 15th day’s workshop for preparation entrance examination from 23/05/2023 to 08/06/2023. All the students who has done the workshop has cleared the entrance examination for higher education.

 

  1. Cultural Procession

Every Year in College week the students of Assamese Department takes part in the cultural procession. In 2023 the students of Assamese department won the first prize department wise cultural procession competition.

 

  1. Field Trip

The Assamese department takes the students for field trips every year. Field trips offer students a valuable break from textbooks and lectures providing them with a practical and hence-on learning experience. Whether visiting historical sites, exploring eco-system or exploring natural and cultural aspects of the regions, these trips enhance students understanding of their academic subjects.
