Brief History of the Department:
Lakhipur College became functional on 10th August 1981.simultatenously day shift classes were started with a 29 students in Education subject was started in the college. Srimati Swarna Bora was the founder teacher of Education Department. After her departure many teachers joined in this department. But present HoD of the department of Education, Lakhipur College, joined the department on 8th August, 1988. Major classes in Education were started in the department from 1990-91 with 4 students and the initial years results were satisfactory.

Associate Professor & Vice-Principal Dr. Bijaya Devi, M.A in Education (1989), M.A in Assamese (1993), B.Ed (1995), M.Phil (2001), & Ph.D (2015) is an educationist with nearly three decades of experience. She has written more than 15 text books for Degree and higher Secondary Courses which has helped the students’ lot. More than she has contributed many articles for the society.
