Brief history of the department:
The department of Political Science was established in the year 1981, along with the other six departments of the college. Mr Abdul Basir was the founder teacher of the department. The following teachers have contributed to the department with their valuable service:

Highlights
Assistant Professor and Head of the Department, Rubina Sarkar, completed her +2 and Graduation (2019) from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. She did her Masters in 2021 from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She has edited one book and authored around seven textbooks. Additionally, she has published more than eight research papers in various journals.

Future plan of the Department
- To make the students capable enough to deal with the real life issues.
- The Department aims to empower the students with critical, analytical and creative thinking to understand the socio-political world around them.
- The Department aims to make the students understand various concepts in Political Theory.
- The Department aims to make the students capable for higher Education, Research as well as for Administrative field.
- To make the students know about the International relations, various Public Policies etc.
6th February 2023
The Department of Political Science in collaboration with IQAC, Lakhipur College organized a Workshop on “Gender inequality against women in workplaces and the constitutional Provisions for safeguarding the Women” on 6th February, 2023. Assistant Professor and HoD of the department presented in the workshop.

Mission Suraksha organized an awareness program on Cyber Security in collaboration with Department of Political Science on 6th February, 2023. The Resource person was Farhin Nasiba Islam, Centre Administrator (SAKHI-OSC, Goalpara)
21st February, 2023
The HoD of Political Science Department and the students along with other faculty members went to Sotosigri ME School for an outreach programme on “The Importance of Mother Tongue” in collaboration with IQAC, Lakhipur College. 32 students participated in the programme.
24th February, 2023
The Department of Political Science organized Departmental Seminar on the Topic – “Globalization and its positive and negative Impacts”, on 24th February, 2023. Total twelve students presented in the Seminar and 29 students participated in the Seminar.
4th March, 2023
The Department of Political Science organized a Departmental Seminar on the topic –“Modernity and its Discourses”. Total 20 students presented in the Seminar.
11th March, 2023
The Department of Political Science organized a Departmental Seminar on the topic “Freedom as Emancipation and Development” on 11th March, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Department Classroom. Total 17 students presented in the Seminar.

The Department of Political Science in collaboration with IQAC, Lakhipur College organized an Online Workshop on “How to Prepare for Civil Service Exams”. The Resource Person was Faruque Ahmed, DSP, CID, Assam. More than 80 students participated in the session and it helped the students to have an idea about the civil service exams.

The Department of Political Science organized a Departmental Seminar on the topic “The nature of Indian States” for the students of 2nd semester. Total 20 students participated and presented on the Seminar.

The Department of Political Science in collaboration with Department of History and IQAC, Lakhipur College organized Arm Wrestling Contest on 25th March in the Departmental Room of Political Science.
12th April, 2023
Department of Political Science celebrated Ambedkar Jayanti in the Departmental classroom. Dr. Rupali Rongpipi, Assistant Professor of History department was the resource person in the programme.

Department of Political Science in collaboration with IQAC, Lakhipur College organized an outreach programme at Baisa High School on the topic ‘Stop Child Marriage: Preventing Childhood, Empowering Futures”

The Department of Political Science organized a Group Discussion on the topic “Role of the anchors of the Global Political Economy in improving the conditions of the third world countries”. The group discussion was for the students of 4th Semester.

Department of Political Science in collaboration with IQAC, Lakhipur College organized a Online “Essay Writing Competition” on the occasion of National Constitution Day – 2023. The topic was – “The Role of Constitution in Preserving Civil Liberties and Human Rights”

Department of Political Science in collaboration with IQAC, Lakhipur College organized a Online talk on “Human Rights for All” on 10th December 2023, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day – 2023. Debasmita Ghosh, Director of Human Rights Law Network, Guahtai Chapter was the resource person of the program.

Department of Political Science organized an Awareness Program among the 1st semester students on the topic – “Voters Registration”. The Resource Person was Mazidul Islam, a student of 5th semester, Department of Political Science who presented a well structured speech on the same topic.
